NLPA Re-Elects Mannschreck as
Chairman at Annual Meeting in Nashville

Stan MannschreckColorado Springs, CO (Jan. 22, 2010) -- Stan Mannschreck, a cattle rancher from Anadarko, Okla., was re-elected as the National Livestock Producers Association's Chairman of the Board at NLPA's annual meeting held in Nashville, Tenn., Jan. 18-21, 2010. Mannschreck, who represents National Livestock Marketing Association, Oklahoma City, Okla., on the NLPA board, said he was looking forward to serving his second term as NLPA's Chairman.

“With the massive increase in debt in our country and so many unknowns right now, 2009 seemed to give us all more questions than answers. Producers were under the spotlight more than ever before last year,” Mannschreck said. “Agriculture needs all of the responsible voices it can get right now and I hope that NLPA will continue to be that. We need to continue to look at what our organization can keep doing to benefit livestock producers and our industry."

Clyde Rutherford, who represents Empire Livestock in Syracuse, N.Y., was elected to serve as NLPA's Vice Chairman. Other members of the NLPA Executive Committee include: Chuck Adami, Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Assn., in Baraboo, Wis.; Darrell Ailshie, Tennessee Livestock Producers, Columbia, Tenn.; Jack Hanson, Tri-State Livestock Credit Corporation, Sacramento, Calif., Rick Lovell, Producers Livestock Marketing Assn., N. Salt Lake, Utah; and Gary Smith, Producers Livestock Credit Corporation, in Omaha, Neb.

Sam & Chuck
Marlis Carson, General Counsel and Vice President for Legal, Tax and Accounting, National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, discussed "Will Capper-Volstead Survive the Current Administration."

Dr. Rawls

Dr. Emmit Rawls, Professor, Agricultural and Resource Economics, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, talked to the NLPA Board about "Assisting Livestock Producers to Make Informd Decisions Regarding Production and Marketing Alternatives."

Richard Drake
Richard Drake was honored for his involvement with the NLPA Sheep & Goat Fund, which is celebrating its 10th Anniversary. Pierce Miller was also to be honored, but was unable to attend the meeting.

Tennessee Farm Bureau
Julius Johnson, Chief Administrative Officer of the Tennessee Farm Bureau, greeted the NLPA Board at the Tennessee Farm Bureau Headquarters in Columbia, TN.

Tennessee Livestock Producers Tennessee Livestock Producers graciously co-hosted the meeting. Lacy Upchurch, President of the Tennesee Farm Bureau, and Darrell Ailshie, TLP General Manager, led the NLPA board on a tour of the TLP Columbia Livestock Center.

They also treated the group to an evening of entertainment with promising country singer, Paul Bogart.


The National Livestock Producers Association, founded in 1921, is an organization of livestock marketing cooperatives and credit corporations representing more than 215,000 livestock producers nationwide.
